The Kafawa Training Program is an initiative created by My World of Bags, in partnership with Mastercard Foundation. The program is designed to train and upskill youth with the necessary skills to create and access opportunities in the manufacturing industry, and consequently, build a generation of youth who now view tailoring, production and manufacturing as dignified and fulfilling.
Kafawa (which translates loosely to 'establishment' in Hausa) aims to improve youth employability through a high-quality and holistic training experience that ranges from basic machine skills to specialised leather-crafting training, to soft skills and entrepreneurship classes.

Trainees familiairise themselves with the industrial machine and begin to master the art of stitching; they execute a variety of projects using leather and non-leather materials. Successful trainees are enrolled in a certification trade test, administered by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The soft skills classes are given a huge focus, with experts designing curricula and conducting masterclasses to impart knowledge and expand the minds of our trainees. Group coaching classes were introduced to create a more intimate session where trainees could share concerns and ideas.
The Enterprise Development Centre of the Pan-Atlantic University delivered training sessions on the necessary foundational knowledge for starting, running and sustaining a successful business. These classes close off with pitching sessions with business experts and present their business plans.
